Who Is Dr. Loyd W. Witherspoon?
Growing up as a military dependent, Loyd had the opportunity to live in many places and become familiar with people of different backgrounds and cultures. During this time, he earned his Eagle Scout and was a recipient of several academic achievements.
He graduated from University of Central Florida and the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, associated with Kent State, with honors, before receiving the coveted medical and surgical training of the foot and ankle at the University of Texas Health Science Center and Medical School in San Antonio, Texas. After his residency, he spent a year on diabetic ulcers and wound research for the University of Texas prior to entering the U.S. Army and becoming the chief of podiatry at a large military hospital.
During his tenure there, he received certification in foot and ankle surgery, a fellow in foot and ankle surgery, as well as advanced trauma life support and advanced cardiac life support. When discharged from active duty, he had reached the rank of Major and remained in the Independent Ready Reserves.
Dr. Witherspoon moved to Chattanooga in 1990, initially working with area podiatrists before entering solo practice as Scenic City Podiatry on Gunbarrel Road over 20 years ago. He has served the Tri-State area ever since.
A man of faith, Doc tries to apply these principles in his practice. He is married with a blended family that includes six children and eight grandchildren (and counting!). When not caring for his patients, he enjoys his family and collects military and sports memorabilia.
